AVOID DOUBTING GOD

I’m no longer a Christian?” that was  a statement of one the greatest gospel musicians in the USA . His thoughts were, “the existence of God needs to be investigated, and as far as he was concerned,” he continued, I don’t believe God exists in the first place! Something worth noting down is this,” This is someone who had sung great songs about God’s goodness. He composed and sung awesome songs about God’s greatness and his power. Whenever he sings, you feel comforted and encouraged in God, yet later, you wonder why such a person can doubt God’s ability and existence his songs declare the same? as we know now, it was more of lip service rather than inner conviction of God’s true identify.

This reminds me of some 2-4 yrs back, another Hillsong singer was in the same boat. In as much as he didn’t say he wasn’t a Christian as this one, all he said was “I want to investigate the reality of God and separate myth, fiction from reality. During the covid-19 season, another friend of mine in-boxed me saying the same. She said,” Quote,” during this season, we have to question our beliefs and religious things we have been told or believed, and jump back to reality!

Whenever I think of this people and their ideas about God, I have no one to think of, as a classic example of how doubt can lead people away from Christ, than think of the life of Pastor Charles Templeton! Incase you don’t know, between 1940-50, it’s said Evangelist Billy Graham was not comparable to Charles Templeton in ministering the word of God. Though a pastor in Toronto church, his zeal for preaching Christ was above Graham’s.. They walked together and preached Christ on the same podium. His crusades pulled many to come listen to him as he preached Jesus. One day, he resigned from the pastoral job in Toronto and joined Princeton Theological Seminary College. In this Bible college, he met lecturers and professors who threw more doubt in the reason to believe than those who affirmed his belief system. Have you ever gone to this Christian gathering where doubts in God, the Holly Ghost and the Godhead of Christ, is preached more than the belief in the same? Charles got into such a college and sooner, he had so many questions lingering in his mind about the Bible and it’s authenticity, than faith in it. He later began to struggle with some Theological issues based on what he was learning and started doubting the authority of God’s word. He specifically doubted the deity of Christ and put a question mark on everything Christ said!

In this college, his study of Philosophy and Anthropology had led him to a willingness to read the Bible as a metaphor rather than literal truth! He once told Billy Graham this,” your faith is so simple and your language is out of date! Billy responded by saying,” look here Charles, I don’t know much to answer your many questions, but I have found that when I say ” The Bible says”, or “God says”, I get results!.

Sooner than later, Pastor Charles Templeton dropped Christianity from his menu and became an atheist.  In 1996, Charles Templeton published his book his doubts in a book Titled, (Farewell to God — My Reasons for Rejecting the Christian Faith ). For sure the devil, up to his death in 7 Jun 2001, had made him write so much against God and a belief in the non-existence of God that even in his 80’s when  he died, he was still an atheist.

On the other hand, Billy Graham, on reasoning about the authority and authenticity of God’s word, as he says,” he took a walk to San Bernardino mountains and when he reached near a stump of tree, he opened his Bible and prayed,” Oh God!” There are so many things in this Bible that I don’t understand. There are so many problems, contradictions with it that I have no solutions for. I can’t answer some of the philosophical and psychological questions Charles and others are raising about your word……. But father, I am going to accept thy word the way it’s-By Faith! He says , after that prayer,  he Sensed God’s power overwhelm him for the first time in months. The battle in his spirit was over!

Brethren, I have some questions to ask you? If you’re in a Bible college, do teach you faith in God or the professors are making you doubt more, the authenticity of God’s word?

Is your education in science or other religious studies solidifying your faith in God or being told of how incomparable they are to Gods word or they seem more true than the bible to you?

As we walk through this journey of faith, are you a Charles Templeton or are you a Billy Graham?

The Bible says, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (Why)👉👉That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2nd Corinthians 3:16-17.

Psalms 19’7-8 also says  “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Beloved, did the Covid season solidify your faith in God or it  has separated  you from God with doubts about his love, care or omnipotence? God’s word is perfect and inspired by God himself! Why doubt it? It is better believe it the way it’s rather than question it. Billy Graham’s history can’t be erased from the Christian calendar of the 19th century…Why? Because of simple faith in God and belief in the written word of God. He is now known more all over the world because of his faith in God than Charles Templeton. Sometimes if you ask majority of people, including the atheists themselves, if they knew Charles, I doubt any may mention him but in Christianity, you don’t need to say more about Billy Graham because he was well known for God, and the kingdom of God. He preached what he knew and avoided arguments about or against it at all costs. The worst mistake you can do is argue with people about God’s word. Instead of doubting the authenticity of the bible, let us believe it as the true word of God.. God bless you
