DONT BE A SIGNPOST IN GOD’S HOUSE

I do ushering in church and recently, when we visited one of our friends in the team, i found myself being challenged in one way or another. In one of the discussions we had, the owner of the house we were visiting brought up a very interesting topic and challenged me as i work in God’s vineyard. His message hit my heart like a thunderbolt but clearly, i knew, God was speaking to me. His message was “In your service to God, make sure you do not become a A SIGNPOST in the house of God!
Think about it friends. The role of a signpost is to direct people to their desired destinations and many times, us who are involved in ministry, you can easily be a signpost that will be directing people to their blessings, while yourself, you are malnourished for lack of food. When thinking more about it, i realized, many of us are so deeply involved in church work, be it singing, children ministry, welcome, practicing for the concerts, ushering, praise and worship etc but we rarely seat to listen to the bread that is broken on the table for them that attend church.
Lucky enough for me, we have two services and i have made a decision to be seating in the 1st service, listen to the word and be blessed by it before now doing ministry in the next one service.
As Jesus was on his normal duty ministering to God’s people, the bible says he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!
My question is,did Martha action and good acts please the Lord, No way! the Lord shouted at her “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”(”Luke 10:38-42)
Saint of God, i’m not in any way against serving God in church, but don’t be very much involved in ministry to levels whereby you don’t seat in God’s presence, as Mary did. Martha was all over, insuring that Jesus was well taken of, but little did she know, that she is the one with needs that the Lord needed to address as she seats in his presence, the way her sister Mary was doing. If you are deeply involved in ministry in church, do your best to listen to the word that is preached to the congregation. Brethren, regardless how involved you are ,look for ways of seating in God’s presence and listen to the word others people are being fed on. As my brother warned me, i warn you too, Never be a signpost in God’s house! Have a blessed day
