Today in the morning i was thinking about a former presidential Aspirant in the year 2000, Dr Lihanda by name. Even though his presidential bib was cut short, because he could not raise 1000 signatures from Kenyan voters, this man Lihanda is not a man you can think is stupid to even think of running for president. By that time, he was a holder of five degrees – in Art, Theology, Law, Education and Philosophy. He is a fully learned man, but unfortunately, apart from doing well academically, at 70 years in age, he has never gotten a job in his life. When the media tried to trace him then, they found him in Kibera slums, but he looked a very frustrated man. Life has never been fair to him, and regardless of all that he has, every office he went seeking for a job, never offered him a job. In-fact, some managers of great organizations where his input is much needed, were afraid of him, and always gave Lame excuses as to why he could not be employed with them.. All they feared was him overtaking them in those offices. This made me think about what Evangelist Wairimu said one day. She said everything we have, and everything we do, is all by the grace of God. Many times we think we deserve it, but don’t you see Dr Lihanda deserves a better, well-paying job because of his academic prowess? Unfortunately for him, his search for a job has been frustration after frustration. When talking to Israel, Moses warned them “The Lord did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations! Rather, it was simply that the Lord loves you, and he was keeping the oath he had sworn to your ancestors.(Deuteronomy 7:7) This made me think of our more qualified teachers, who were carrying twigs to protest of salary increment, yet on the same hand, there are others, with less qualification, earning more than one hundred thousand, and driving on our roads, courtesy of their employment in private schools!
It’s amazing to hear that a kindergarten teacher, taking care of baby class in private schools, can earn more than a hundred thousand Kenya Shillings, yet a University don, in a public university does not even come close to that. Does that mean that God hates some or rejects another? No! Everyone has his portion in God but one thing you will never understand, is God’s ordination and his purposes that he wants fulfilled in certain individuals. Moses continues to tell Israel, After the Lord your God has done this for you, don’t say in your hearts, ‘The Lord has given us this land because we are such good people!’ No, It is not because you are so good or have such integrity that you are about to occupy their land. The Lord your God will drive these nations out ahead of you only because of their wickedness, and to fulfill the oath he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You must recognize that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land because you are good, for you are not—you are a stubborn people.(Deuteronomy 9:4-6). Saint of God, always be grateful for what the Lord has put on your path to enjoy. There are people out there, who are better and more qualified than you are, and sorry to say, they can also even do a better job than you, but God set his love on you, and gave you that opportunity, for the fulfillment of his purposes in this life. Paul, when speaking to the church, gave this command” let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge a Servant who is not yours? For if he stands, he stands to his Master, and if he falls, he falls to his Master, for it is appointed to his Master to be able to establish him. Everything we are, and everything we do, is by the grace of God. (Romans 14:1-4). Let me ask as all this question, ” when you see someone rich, with a better job\company and yet unqualified, don’t condemn him\her. It’s God’s love that rests on him\her. Sometimes people who don’t have it always talk ill of the rich but we have to be careful because we may-be fighting God’s order. The rich also have the same command, they are not allowed to look down on anyone because he does not have it. God has a plan for everybody he created, but we must always respect his order of things because everything we have and do is by the grace of God. He sets his love on us for a reason but not because we are better than the others. It’s just by his grace. It’s with this understanding that made Paul write and say, ”whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace. 1 Corinthians 15:10. God bless you Have a blessed day
