You are always as good as the people who advice you. That’s the truth many people don’t know. David was the best king but he had the best adviser in history, whose name was Ahithophel
The bible says this about Ahithophel in 2 Samuel 15:31,”Now in those days the advice Ahithophel gave was like that of one who inquires of God.
Do you hear that? The best king in the world had the best adviser, and whose words were like messages from God?
What makes a nation is the kind of advisers that surround your King or president. In the life of David, he made the right choice of a man who gave him counsel that scripture says “was like the words of God! If you compare David and King Rehoboam, you realize David was good at listening to advise but Rehoboam’s influencers were negative, thus the advice he got, divided the nation into two. The bible says, ”Israel went to Shechem to make Rehoboam king. After being anointed to lead the nation, all Israel went to him and said to him: “Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.” Rehoboam answered, “Come back to me in three days.” So the people went away.
Every wise leader gives some thinking time to consult. He did and when he asked for advice from the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime
They replied, “If you will be kind to these people and please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants.”
Unfortunately, Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. He asked them, “What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’ The young men who had grown up with him replied, “The people have said to you, ‘Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.’
Do you see why it’s not advisable to ask for counsel from your agemates? The results were clear. Anation got divided into two because three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, “Come back to me in three days.”The king answered them harshly. Rejecting the advice of the elders, he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.” So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from God, to fulfill the word the Lord had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.2 Chronicles 10:1-10
My question to us all is, who is advising your president or king? Have you ever taken time to pray that your president is led by the Lord to find godly cousellors within his circle? We can have the best president, the best opposition but they cannot go no further than the advises of those who surround them. David was wise when he chose the best adviser in the world. Ahithophel was a pillar to his administration
When reading Ezekiel, i was touched to know that God is concerned about the people who advice our leaders. Ezekiel says this, “the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the LORD’S house which faced eastward. And behold, there were twenty-five men at the entrance of the gate, and among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.
He said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and give evil advice in this city, who say, ‘The time is not near to build houses. This city is the pot and we are the flesh.’ “Therefore, prophesy against them, son of man, prophesy!”[Ezekiel 11:1-4]
If you continue reading, you see Ezekiel turning prophetic and speaking as the Lord led him and in verse 13,the results of his prayers are evident.
The bible says “Now it came about as I prophesied that Pelatiah son of Benaiah died. Then I fell on my face and cried out with a loud voice and said, “Alas, Lord GOD! Will You bring the remnant of Israel to a complete end?”
Dear saint, whoever advises our leaders I’m far more important than the leader himself, and many times in our country, many people get the ear of the president, our opposition leaders and those in authority, and instead of using the opportunity to give good advice, they mislead and the results can be the fall of a nation.[God forbid]
Today i want us to turn prophetic. Lets do this:
1:Use Ezekiel 11 to speak prophetically over our leaders that God may remove from their presence anyone who would take advantage of their position to give evil advise!
2: Pray that God may appoint the Ahithophels of our time to give good sound and Godly counsel that will lift our nation together than tear it apart
3: Pray prophetically that those with evil advice will never gain access to our leaders and their influence will diminish- for the glory of God and the good of your country.
Note that we are not praying for the death of anyone but are seeking God to bring the right people as advisers to our leaders, and so if he wishes to remove the evil ones, and we see them go as Ezekiel saw Pelatiah son of Benaiah go, for the sake of this nation where you were born. God care about your country but our prayers will make a difference
Let’s be prophetic in our prayers today. God is on our side and i know he will respond and give our leaders the right advisers. Let that be our focus today. God bless you
