Have you ever been amazed that some people can have the best parents, best churches, best preachers and best everything -majority of them end up living miserable lives? Life has its
twists and turns that many times, if you happen to have been born in certain
regions of the country, probably you would have admired to be close to a
certain Bishop, fatherly\motherly figure or even just getting employed where
they work, to tap into their knowledge, but you could not, yet at the same
time, when you look at someone who has been close to such people you honor the
most, either a biological child or a personal assistant or even an employee,
you see them not matching to what you would admire to have from them.
Many times, people who work in church really amaze me. Have you ever imagined
how sweet it can be to work as a personal assistant to a bishop like T.D Jake’s
or Joyce Mayor if not John Hagee? By this, i don’t mean the personal assistants
to this men and women of God are bad people-they maybe the best but i wonder if
someone can have such a chance, and waste it!
When in the presence of such a person, you will either catch his anointing or die a miserable Christian life. Elisha was a personal assistant to Elijah, but he never lost touch of
what he could gain from his relationship with this great man of God. He was
always aware of the eternal blessings he will get from the anointing this
servant of God had. When time came for Elijah to be taken to heaven by the
Lord, Elisha was there waiting anxious for that opportune moment. Elijah then
said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. “You have
asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from
you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not. ”As they were walking along and
talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and
separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. [2nd
kings 2:9-11].
His wish was granted and the bible says The Company of the prophets from
Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha.”
And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. [vs 15]
The bible has another man whose history is blurred because he missed to value
what Elisha valued. He was money minded whenever he served God’s servant and it
paid him with leprosy. This assistant to God’s prophet had no value for the
spiritual things but was carnally minded. His name was Gehazi.
Gehazi with all the wonderful privileges he had, could not think much of how to
tap the anointing from Elisha but took bribes from Naaman after getting healed
by Elisha. When the Lord reminded Elisha of what Gehazi had done, he told him
“Naaman’s leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever.” Then
Gehazi went from Elisha’s presence and his skin was leprous—it had become as
white as snow. [2nd kings 5:27]
Saint of God, Elisha died without handing over the mantle. He went to the grave
with his anointing. What apathetic thing. Gehazi lived, worked and walked with
a man of God for his life only to get a curse and not a blessing, and to prove
that his anointing went with him to the grave,2nd kings 13:21 tells us
“Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band
of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body
touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.
It’s not men of God alone but some of us are born to the right people. Best couples that inspire others in marriages and hold talks for couples. They have healed so many marriages and
restored relationships-but oh, someone born in such a home not learning from
such good parents, is a mistake to regret for life. Imagine how many rich sons
and daughters have sold family property after the dad and mum have died. You
keep on wondering, didn’t this son or daughter ever learn anything from the
parents about investments. It’s funny that here in Kenya, some people or
families that were billionaires 10-20 yrs ago, majority are struggling after
the source of that wealth died. Do you ever wonder what happened that some of
this people had the right connection, a business that was standing on its feet
and everything to enjoy for life, only to for the father to die and a sudden frenzy
of selling everything the dad treasured ensues and sooner than later, you
realize they’re even begging for the simple things they threw away after the
parents’s death. I keep asking myself, what did this never learn from this great
investor? You mean with all this yrs of closeness to the boss, they all were
only strategizing on how to sell everything after dad is gone. Colgate is a
family business that has existed for over 100 yrs, but most business mogul’s of
our day rarely outlive their wealth to the 3rd generation. It amazes me that
some people can be so close to the best of everything but end up not learning
anything from such people. It’s funny that even those access to the best of
life ,end up not catching that passion for what the one they were close to had
to share. Most great servants of God, when dead, that is when you realize the
pastors who were close to them in ministry had not learnt anything from them on
simple things like managing God’s flock. The Bishop dies and people start
moving from that once famous church to other churches…why? because someone
was so close to Bishop, but never go take the mantle from the Bishop to
shepherd God’s church to greater heights.
My question to us all is, are you learning anything from the connections you have from God that are so close to you? Are your parents rich? What are you learning on how to enhance
the business further and grow it after dad is gone and mum, to new levels? Are
you taking anything from Dad and mum about business growth and maintaining a
business? If you work in church as secretary to your Bishop or whatever post
that makes you be near a well-known figure in parenting, ministry or any field,
are you there for job functions only or you’re using that opportunity to tap
into his anointing and wealth of knowledge to stir yourself up for greater
things ahead?. God places us in such places for a reason. Don’t be like Gehazi
who missed his anointing and inherited a curse. Be the Elisha who got a double
portion of Elijah’s anointing. Have merry Christmas and enjoy it in the name of
Jesus. God bless you
