We all watched with horror, some few yrs ago, when the world was treated to a unique scenario in Uganda, as a house help literally stepped on the spinal cord of a young Girl- put under her care, in a video footage. That was after she had subjected the defenseless kid to kicks and thrown her mercilessly to the floor with such a thud. It left us with our mouth open, but that was not the latest news.
Al-shabaab, Alqaeda other terror groups seem to make our police have sleepless nights, as they kill innocent people worldwide, if not attacks people in their homes without mercy.
In France some yrs back, two Muslim terrorists and brothers managed to kill 17 innocent souls and with no remorse, all in defense of a religious philosophy.
Many times we wonder what has gone wrong with such people, but let me assure you my brothers and sisters, were it not for the hand of God on us, we can do worse things that beat the record of all this men and women we consider wicked. When the Ugandan lady was seen doing all this evils, many people were all over the world writhing in pain and wishing they had an opportunity to deal with her!. Literally, many were shaking and baying for her blood, but if you were given a chance to deal with her, and ended up killing her, would that be the right thing to do? Why is it that our hearts has no mercy on someone else, except wishing we were shown mercy, when we do wrong?
The point is, we all have terrible hearts and capable of doing anything, except the grace of God. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, as the scripture says, and the truth is not in us [1 John1:8]. God is the only remedy to our human hearts. Jailing someone does not remove the wickedness in their hearts, it just enhances it, but exposing someone to God and his word, makes him suddenly see his failures and seek God’s intervention and grace forever.
The truth is, however how terrible a heart is, it can be changed. However how hardened in Crime or illicit lifestyle the heart is, the blood of JESUS shed on the cross, washes any darkest corner, and makes us sensitive to doing what is right in the will of God.
When we get saved, God now expects us to expose our newly converted hearts to his word. The bible says “the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. [Hebrews 4:12-13]
Notice the power of God’s word over our hearts. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
To me, this means the worst thing you can do to yourself is not to expose your heart to the word of God. We have it on you-tube, phones and physical copies in our homes, but rarely do many of us read it. Your attitudes and intentions of your hearts are never what God desires, but once we expose ourselves to the word of God, they get judged as God’s word links us to the will of God. That’s why Paul said even though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. [2 Corinthians 10:3-6]
Saint of God, you will never know which stronghold to demolish, or which thought to take captive until you expose yourself to the whole counsel of God, which is his word.
Make a habit of reading a bible once ayr, from Genesis to revelation. If you read 3 or 4 chapters of the bible everyday, page by page, in a yr you will have finished reading it all, and God will make it active in your life, and sooner than later, you will realize all your decision and desires are aligned to God’s will. Many lawyers and judges who took the word of God as a guide many times end up making right decisions. Actually, the legal laws of Moses have been training manuals for any lawyer and judge. No one can escape the word of God. Nothing holds our life and hearts except God and his word. We’re what we are by the grace of God and the power of his word. Read it as often and you will never miss on the will of God. God bless you
